I can hear it already:

“Yeah, no shit Mike, we’re all looking for sales aces. If I find one, I’m keeping them to myself!”

Fair enough, but it doesn’t hurt to throw it out there! You may know someone in Boston or Denver that is great but isn’t willing to relocate to your market or something along those lines.

If you know someone, we would appreciate the referral, as we are staffing up our sales teams in those markets.

Hey Mike,

I’ve just hired two salespeople in Seattle and used the strategies from “The Ultimate Sales Machine” (chapter 5) to find them. In the book, Chet details how to write the ad, how to do the phone interview, and how to do the in person interview. Both signed on with a (generous) pure commission comp plan (small draw for first 3 months) and have very strong track records and amazing reference checks. All that said, I’m sure one of them will still fail, but that is to be expected. The surprising part (for me) was that I was able to use Craigslist to find two excellent candidates and had the whole thing done in 3 days.
