Net Promoter useful to measure “customer transactions” – when someone spends money (or time) on you. Helps understand voice of customer, and what to prioritize to improve.

Measure using low-cost survey and spreadsheets (cheap but time-consuming) or tools like CustomerGauge, SatMetrix.

Excellent book: “The Ultimate Question” by Fred Reicheld. Or 2-minute guide to the Net Promoter Score: All you need to know about NPS in a cartoon format – http://customergauge.com/wordpress/?p=42

Great article. Love NPS and think our industry will benefit from this type of loyalty survey.

Please not that your score is a SCORE, not a percent. Once you’ve subtracted your detractors from promoters your result is a score. Since you’ve removed the passives, you are not dealing with 100% of the respondents therefore your results are not a percent.

I agree that our industry will benefit from this type of loyalty survey.

Your score is reported as a percentage. You take the percentage of promoters and subtract the percentage of detractors to get your NPS. Passives are not added or subtracted but they count in the total score. For example if I had 7 promoters, 2 passives, and 1 detractor, i would have a 60% NPS (70% – 10%).
You could also use the example of 9 passives and 1 detractor, you now have a -10% NPS which happens in some industries.

You can see this on the site here: http://www.netpromoter.com/np/calculate.jsp
