They are focused more on big company IT and the ways it is currently changing but I believe there is a parallel between what the large organization CTOs are feeling and what a small business clients of ours with offices around the states and will / do need.

As the “Virtual IT department” for organizations around the country we are always thinking about what structure is best for our clients. We take the stance that we always want to do what is best for our clients business and sometimes this means working with them to have people from their organization play a part in defining their IT needs along with us. This is the equivalent of the suggestion in the article that IT can’t do everything and involving people from each department in the organization creates more creativity. We find the exact same thing when it comes to involving people from the client organization in creatively coming up with strategic IT initiatives.
The MSP relationship is becoming more and more about playing this strategic facilitation role for clients than about managing the IT infrastructure – the plumbing of the organization.
